PRONOUN

A word that takes the function and the position of a noun or, sometimes, another pronoun. Pronouns are indefinite, personal, reciprocal, negative, relative, reflexive, intensive, possessive, distributive, interrogative, or demonstrative.

Journalists can rely on a strong public support to defend a free press, but they must exercise greater responsibility, if they want a continuing public sympaty.
